I fully intended to comment today on Circuit City's state of floundering, which was announced last week (maybe a week and a half ago) along with news that Blockbuster wants to buy them out. So I was doing a little research, only you can't find any news about Circuit City, because no one is reporting on it. Even searches are frustrating because every single story about a crime, ever, involves some "circuit" court and takes place in some "city". It's one of those peculiarities of the nature of search engines, I guess--like trying to find a CD on eBay by the artist "Seal". Try it. It's tough.
I would think that news about a major U.S. retailer whispering "Rosebud" (ten points to anyone who can identify the reference) would merit prominence in the news sources. Not that it should be front-page or anything, but I would think that someone looking for information should be able to find it. But no. So what is being reported?
Well, the big upset from yesterday was the revelation that Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor. This is pretty serious (obviously, cancer is serious, but I'm speaking more abstractly). Kennedy is a significant and controversial figure and one of the last remnants of an American dynasty whose kings can't seem to live past the age of 50. So regardless of what you think about his politics, tale of his suddenly and dramatically failing health is certainly newsworthy. This must be why this morning's papers led with results from the Democratic Primary.

Does the primary-that-won't-end remind anyone else of American Idol? Come on. It's not like Oregon and Kentucky were battleground states. We knew who was going to win each one. In fact, we know who's going to win the whole thing. Obama has already taken Hillary to the mat, we're just waiting for the ref to finish counting. And then he's going to kick McCain's arse, because it's what's going to happen.
And speaking of American Idol. it seems to be big in the news too, as both finalists ("the Daves") are appearing on Larry King. Larry effing King. American Idol. A show that was somewhat important six years ago...
