So if you haven't been following the coverage of the R. Kelly trial, I highly recommend it. Buried under the legalese is a sort of carnival of pomp and vulgarity that is... how should I say it... quintessentially American.
Slate's coverage is pretty amusing, coining phrases like the "Little-Man" Defense, the "Shaggy" defense, and more recently the "Ghost Sex" defense.
The immediate lesson to learn from all this is that, if you're going to engage in sexual activities with the under-aged, and film it... you're pretty much hosed unless you can afford one hell of a lawyer. But the broader lesson is this:
In the future, there will be no news, only blogs.
