This Will Offend Catholics (You're Warned)

New allegations against Pope Benedict XVI are arising about the role he played in covering up child molestations in the 70's and 80's. Reviews of church laws have brought to light a disturbing little factoid: the pope cannot be removed from office. He can't be defrocked, forced to resign, or even subjected to the laws of any land.

This is frightening on its face, but I submit a positive spin. Popes tend to be old. One of these days, a pope is going to have a stroke that renders him severely handicapped, but refuse to resign. On that day, we'll all get a chance to see the awesome power of God as revealed by someone with brain damage! It's just a matter of time.

I probably shouldn't find that funny. But I do.
