The rifle category itself has been widened with L4D2. There's the extended clip military sniper (which has a proper name, I'm sure) and the regular. This clip extension will change dynamics drastically, I think.

With the addition of shiny new melee weapons, I suspect that the shotgun will be far less widely used, as farther-ranged weapons will probably compliment them better.

Good analysis, and you convinced me that the hunting rifle is useful in certain situations.

That said, I'm still going to stick with my trusty shotgun since I find it useful much more often. Also: because somebody's got to save the damn sniper...
